Description

ST4717 STOKE SUB HAMDON CP NORTH STREET (West side)
6/321 Gateway and wall linking The
Priory and the barn, about 14
metres north
19.4.61
GV II
Gateway and wall. Possibly C15, modified. Ham stone mostly cut and squared, ashlar dressings. Wall averages 5 metres
high, and has much worn stepped angled coping: just north of centre a tall 3-centre-arched gateway, with low C20 timber
gates, and to this a lower pointed-arched postern, now blocked; buttresses flank the major arch on the western side.
Part of the setting of The Priory (q.v), which it links to a barn (q.v), and an important element in the streetscene in
the centre of the village.
