Gatehouse and Gatehouse Cottage

A Grade II Listed Building in Thrumpton, Nottinghamshire

Carriage opening, the Gatehouse, Church Lane, Thrumpton

Uploader's Comments

The carriageway is floored with granite setts to prevent ruts made by the iron tyres of carriages. Low bollards ar at the corners to fend the wheels away from the brickwork. The heavy gate is supported by a trundle wheel which rolls on an iron track. This reduces the leverage, exerted by the weight of the gate, on the hinge pins embedded in the brickwork.
