Description

SS 80 SE UPTON HELLIONS

4/283 Haske Farmhouse

II

Farmhouse. Probably C16, with Cl7 improvements. Plastered cob on rubble
footings; rubble stacks topped with C19 brick; thatched roof. Gable-end 3-room-
and-through-passage house facing south-west with inner room at left (north-west)
end. End stacks to service and inner rooms and axial hall stack backing onto
passage. C17 rear block behind inner room with cob stack in gable end and C19
gable-ended stair block to rear of passage. 2 storeys. Regular 4-window front of
mostly late C19 and C20 casements with glazing bars. First floor window over hall
(left of centre) is late C17-early C18 flat-faced mullion window with central iron
casement and leaded glass. The mullion-and-upper transom window over the door
right of centre may also be late C17-early C18. Passage has C19 6-panel door and
overlight with glazing bars. Layout suggests that C16 and C17 features remain
inside, but interior inaccessible at time of survey.
