53/2002 Wilderness Farm Barn

GV II

Threshing barn with attached stabling. Late C16 origin,altered in C18. Exterior
weatherboarded on concrete brick and sandstone plinth. Corrugated iron roof but
thatched originally. 5 bays. Double doors. C16 gunstock, jowled posts. Queen
post roof with no ridge piece and diagonal tension braces. 1st bay was originally
floored over. Barn was constructed from west to east as direction of pegs show.
Chiselled carpenters marks. Early C19 bay weatherboarded stable attached to north
east with queen post roof, through purlins and ridge piece. Included for group
value only.
