Wilderness Farmhouse

GV II

Farmhouse. Mid C16 timberframed building reclad in early C18 and re-fenestrated
in 1938. Ground floor of red brick with grey headers, 1st floor tile hung. Tiled
roof with end external brick chimney-stacks. 2 storeys and attics, 3 windows.
Hipped dormer to attic. 1938 metal casement windows with leaded lights in original
openings. Central doorcase with flat wooden weatherboard and C20 plank door.
Outshut to rear. Right side ground floor room has inglenook fireplace and axial
beam with run out stops. Left side ground floor room has C18 open fireplace with
wooden bressumer, axial beam with lamb's tongue stop and C16 jowled post resited.
1st floor shows a C16 arch brace and generally the front posts have C18 curved
cut jamb while the rear posts have C16 tapering ones. Many beams have 2 brick
chamfers and lamb's tongue stops. C16 floorboards. Attic has C18 roof of angled
queen strut type with through purlins. C17 plank door with iron pintle hinges
and 1 reused beam forming door frame with mortices for diamond-shaped mullioned
windows.
