2/28 Group of farmbuildings 25 metres
to north of Trevell Farmhouse
GV II
Range of farmbuildings including stalls for yearlings, shippons, stables, lofts and
threshing floor. Circa early to mid C19. Stone rubble with ashlar stone dressings.
Slate roof with hipped and half hipped ends and gable end to stable.
Plan: The farmbuildings are arranged in a 'U' shape plan around the yard and were
built in several stages. To the left a barn used for yearling's with threshing floor
above. Across the rear a series of shippons with stable set forward on right. To
right range of shippons with loft above, now used as milking parlour.
The threshing machinery was originally powered by a waterwheel in the field below.
Exterior: Two storeys. The left hand range was built in two stages. The ground
floor openings have dressed stone arches and lintels and there is a wide feeding door
to right of centre. Double doors to loft with slate hood. Across rear are 5 shippon
doors with loft door flanked by windows on first floor. Gable end to stable, set
forward on right. Range on right with shippon doors alternating with windows with 2
windows above.
Interior: Not inspected.
An especially complete range of farmbuildings of high quality, built for a farm of
over 300 acres. The farmbuildings are still used and have remained unaltered and
unspoilt.
