Farrago and Washhouse to Right

A Grade II Listed Building in Hornsea, East Riding of Yorkshire

Farrago, Hornsea.

Uploader's Comments

Built in 1909 by David Reynard Robinson (1843-1913). The name was intended to invoke Juvenal's famous usage of the Latin word farrago (mixed fodder) as a metaphor for the medley of satiric form. Farrago itself, with its vivid colouring and incongruent juxtapositons is an architctural satire aimed at the values of the middle-class house.
