GV II

Barn, now also serving as a gatehouse. C16 with alterations. Timber
frame dark weatherboarded with steep old red tile roof, with chevron
pattern of darker tiles. 4-bays with gabled porch to road on N in 2nd
bay from W. Opposed double doorways now serve carriageway to courtyard
of house. Sympathetic W extension for a dwelling. Single-storey C18
lower stable attached at SE dark weatherboarded with steep old red tile
roof. Barn has heavy jowled posts and curved braces to wallplates and
staggered mid-height rail. Central post in gable. Original clasped
purlin roof on jowled posts, collar and struts, to porch. Main roof
adapted to queen-post form in early C19. (Roberts(1975)no. 14:
Pevsner(1977)107).
