Description

SX 76 NE WOODLAND

3/66 Merrifield House
-

- II

House, formerly (after about 1767) occupied by the curate of Woodland and possibly
built as his residence. Late C18 or early C19. Stone rubble, blocked out render.
Slated roofs. Brick chimney-stacks in left-hand gable and on roof-ridge off-centre
to right. L-shaped plan. 2 storeys with single storey addition at rear. 3
windows wide. Central doorway with flanking pilasters and entablature of wood;
panelled reveals. 6-panelled door with 2 lower panels flush; patterned fanlight.
All panels carry a raised margin moulding. Windows have original barred sashes of
8 panes each in second storey; in ground story original upper sashes have 8 panes
and lower sashes 12 panes. L-wing, at rear to left, has 1 window in each storey of
outer face, both with original 8-paned barred sashes. At rear of main range a tall
round-headed stair window with glazing bars. Interior not inspected, but appears
to have wooden staircase with thin square-section balusters.
