House. Built in 1891 by the artist Christopher Turner, who also built The Watts
Gallery in Compton. Vernacular Revival style. Ground floor ironstone with red brick
dressings. Gable has eclectic timberframing of quatrefoils and diagonals and is tile
hung at the top. Elaborate fretted wooden bargeboards with circular and peardrop
design. Tiled roof with brick chimneystack. One storey and attics. Irregular
fenestration. First floor has 2 leaded light casements. Ground floor has one 5-light
casement with leaded lights. Gable projects on wooden brackets. Right side elevation
has band of four quatrefoils before projecting chimneystack with four diagonally set
stacks. Dated decorative rainwater head. One single leaded light window and three-light
canted bay. Left side has lean to porch with tiled penticed hood, small window above
and plank door. Rear elevation has alternate courses of plain and curved tiles and
three-light casement to attic. Attached courtyard of ironstone with brick lacing courses
contains underground water tank. Interior features include plank doors, wooden
staircase and fireplaces with firegrates, the downstairs one having flame motif finials
and quatrefoil decoration.
