Unicorn Gate

(Formerly listed as Unicorn Gate, ROYAL BOTANIC GARDENS)

Late C18 or early C19 figure. Piers perhaps later. A single entrance rusticated. Portland stone gateway with segmental arched head and mutule cornice hood bearing a figure facing south, of an unicorn couchant, chained with open crown collar. Figure whitewashed but probably terracotta, as lion is. Possibly once adorned a single gateway with the lion of Lion Gate.
