Public hall. Formerly Miners' Welfare Hall. 1909. For the
Bolsover Colliery Company Ltd. Stripped Jacobean Revival style.
Brick, partly rendered, with stone dressings. Double pitched
Westmorland slate roof. Sill band, linked hood moulds, coped
gables with kneelers. Single and 2 storeys. 3 bays wide by 8
bays deep. T-plan. Windows are flush mullioned casements.
South front has gabled central bay with rusticated flanking
pilasters and beyond, flanking wings. Central pair of round
headed half-glazed doors with moulded eared architrave and hood.
Single flanking casements. Beyond, single casements. Above,
large central round headed mullioned casement with hood, scroll
brackets and keystone. Flanked by single casements. Above,
central plaque inscribed 'The Bolsover Colliery Company Ltd.
1909'. Buttressed west front has to left, projecting gabled bay
and to right, projecting gabled wing. To left, a casement. To
its right, 2 round-headed casements and altered casement with C20
door. Beyond, 3 round headed casements. To right again,
gabled wing has 2 storey canted bay window with 3 casements on
each floor. Above, central leaded cupola with drum and leaded
dome with finial. Similar east front has additional door in
gabled wing. North gable has central pair of round headed doors
with moulded architrave, scroll brackets and hood, and a pair of
integral flanking lights. Beyond, single casements. Above, 5
light casement with hood mould. Above again, plaque with
wreath. Interior has double return staircase with ramped
handrail and paired stick balusters. 2 first floor rooms have
large fireplaces with corbelled concrete lintels and polished
steel fire hoods with coronet in ring and motto 'Staunch and
True'.
