Monumental slab, c1694. Commemorates John Potter (d1694). Sandstone.
Rectangular, with roll-moulded border; the upper half is filled with a
carved achievement of arms, including a shield with 3 sunk bulls' heads, and
exuberant foliation, with a lower border of arcades and scrolls; the
inscription in the lower half, in cursive script, identifies John Potter as
"Son of John Potter Senr of Munkroad who marryed Mary the Daughter of Henry
Holgate of Grimethorpe Gent . . ."; below this, a sunk band displays large
raised lettering "16:IF.94", beneath which is inscribed "Etaus Suae 50".
