Lodge to Rood Ashton House (q.v.), now detached house. Early C19
for Long family. Limestone ashlar, Welsh slate roof, stone stacks.
Gothic fantasy to match Rood Ashton House. Two-storey and attic,
4-window. Central double doors in large chamfered Tudor-arched
carriage entrance, leaded oriel to left and lancet to right. First
floor has 2-light mullioned casement with hoodmould to left, lancet
to right and 2-light mullioned casement to stepped gable over
archway, heraldic Arms of Longs carved on three shields.
Cylindrical turret to right corner with lancets and corbelled
battlemented parapet. Square tower to left side with lancets and
blind cross arrowlooop, corbelled battlemented parapet. Single and
2-storey bays to left with mullioned casements. This lodge may
date from the 1836 alterations to the main house by Thomas Hopper
and may have been designed by him.
