GV II

Pair of Bowood estate cottages, c1850, squared rubble stone with
stone slate eaves roof, 2 octagonal ridge stacks and similar pair
of rear wall stacks. One and a half storeys, Tudor style. To
left, projecting gable with finial, upper floor jettied over open
porch with ornate curving braces incorporating bench-ends of porch
seats, turned wood baluster screens behind seats. Two-light with
hoodmould above. To right, main range has 2 shouldered dormer
gables with finials and 2-light windows and 3 ground floor 3-light
windows with hoodmoulds. South end wall has ground floor door to
No 44 and 2-light window, jettied upper floor and 2-light, both
windows with hoodmoulds. Catslide rear roof with 2 dormer gables.
Possibly designed by Emily, Lady Shelburne, whose design for Nos
22-3 Old Derry Hill (q.v.) survives in Bowood estate plans.
