Description

TQ 62 40 PEMBURY HIGH STREET (south side)

13/373 Nos 15-21 (odd) including
front area railings

GV II

Row of 4 houses. Mid C19. Plastered brick, original plaster surviving at
ground floor level is lightly incised as ashlar; brick stacks and
chimneyshafts; slate roof.

Plan: Row of 4 contemporary houses facing north numbering 15-21 from left to
right. Each is one room wide and 2 rooms deep. Each is mirror plan of the
other and each end pair is served by an axial wall between them serving back-
to-back fireplaces. It seems that both end houses were built as shops since
they have second doorways in the end walls.

3 storeys.

Exterior: Symmetrical 4-window front of 16-pane sashes. End windows at
ground floor level are former shop windows, both canted bays with glazing
bars. All 4 front doorways, and those each end contain original 3-panel
doors, overlights with margin panes (missing at No 19) and shallow hoods on
shaped brackets.

Interiors: Not inspected.

Small front gardens are fenced from the road by original cast iron spear-
headed railings, missing in front of No 21.
