Monument to Thomas Boulsover 1705 to 1788, inventor in 1743 of the Sheffield Plate process for plating a layer of silver onto copper. His monument was commissioned by David Flather, Master Cutler 1927-28. Stone from the demolished wire mill at the foot of the dam may have been re-used. Boulsover lived at nearby Whiteley Wood Hall. The coat of Arms on the monument has three pairs of crossed swords within an oval bordered by 45 plates. The crest is an elephants head erased, trunk extended. (Photo Nov 2013).
