GV II

Road bridge spanning the River Trent. 1868-71. By M Ogle
Tarbotton, Corporation Engineer. Ashlar abutments, cast-iron
spans by Andrew Handyside of Derby. Gothic Revival style. 3
segmental arches with traceried spandrels. Pierced cast-iron
balustrade with 6 lamp standards. Rockfaced piers with pointed
cutwaters, with clustered columns carrying balconies. Coped
retaining wall and single round flood arch on north west side.
Abutments have battered square corner piers with cornices,
ornamented with the City arms.
The south-east end of the bridge is in West Bridgford,
Rushcliffe CP.
