Formerly known as: Byrlay Edge EDGE LANE.
House. Dated 1705, incorporating an earlier cruck building.
Late C18 alterations and mid C19 additions. Restored 1959 by D
Doncaster. Coursed squared stone with gabled and hipped stone
slate roofs with single ridge and 2 gable stacks, all coped.
EXTERIOR: rusticated quoins, lintel bands to each floor, coped
gables with kneelers. 2 storeys; 4 window range. L-plan.
South front has a coped datestone, with the inscriptions "J C
1705" and "D D 1959" above the off-centre door, flanked by
single 12 pane sashes. Beyond, to left, a 15 pane fixed light.
Beyond, to right, a mid C18 casement with an unusual pattern
of glazing bars. Moulded stone doorcase with scroll brackets
to cornice and C19 half-glazed door. On either side, a 9 pane
sash and beyond to left, a half-glazed door with chamfered
surround. To right, a 2-light glazing bar casement similar to
the one above. Right gable is blank.
To left, 2-storey wing with two C18 flush mullioned 2-light
windows on each floor, the upper ones being larger. To left, a
C19 2 storey addition with two 9 pane sashes and below, an
off-centre stable door and a slatted casement.
Rear elevation has to left, a flush mullioned 2-light window
flanked to left by 2 chamfered mullioned windows and to right
by a similar window. Below, at ground level, a flush mullioned
window and to its left, a glazing bar casement. Flush
cross-wing, to right, has an exposed bay post and a C19
3-light casement.
