Former Boys' Prison Block of HMP Manchester
(Formerly listed as: Boys' Prison Block of Strangeways Gaol)

Formerly women's prison. 1866-68, by Alfred Waterhouse. Red
brick with stone dressings and slate roof. Cruciform plan with
wings radiating from an octagonal concourse. The concourse has
a clerestory with a 3-light stone mullioned window in each
side, a corbel table to the eaves, a tourelle at each corner,
and a pointed roof. The 4-storeyed wings have ranges of cell
windows with stone sills and cambered stone heads.
