SJ8490 STENNER LANE, Didsbury
698-1/25/647 (North side)
09/01/74 Nos.18 AND 20 (Even)

GV II

Pair of houses, or farmhouse and cottage. Later C18 and mid
C19; altered. Red brick in Flemish bond, with some sandstone
dressings; slate roof. Rectangular double-depth plan of 3
elements: a later C18 double-fronted house to the right
(No.18), an early one-bay addition to the left of this, and a
C19 double-fronted house (No.20) added to this. Two storeys,
with 2:1:2 windows at 1st floor. The original house, formerly
symmetrical with a central doorway (now evident only by
patched brickwork), has two 3-light casements on each floor,
those at ground floor segmental-headed and multi-paned, those
at 1st floor shorter, and all with raised stone sills; to the
left, beyond remains of a vertical joint, are one square and
one segmental-headed window at ground floor and a 2-light
casement above; and this house has a double chimney stack at
the junction and a cut-down gable chimney. No.20 to the left
has a central doorway with gabled porch of wooden open-work,
two 4-pane sashes on each floor, all with raised sills and
wedge lintels, a chimney at the junction to the right and a
cut-down gable chimney. Rear and interior not inspected.
