WOLLATON PARK
Ice house, retaining wall, steps and railing north-west of Wollaton Hall
GV
II
Ice house, retaining wall, steps and railing. Early C19,
possibly by Wyatville. Brick, mainly rendered, with ashlar
dressings and slab coping.
The retaining wall, approx 120m long, runs in a curve north
westwards from Wollaton Hall (qv). It retains a natural
hillside in which the ice house is set. Nearest Wollaton Hall,
a flight of semicircular steps, leading to a path approx 50m
long running NW and flanked by a wrought-iron railing. Set
into the wall, a stone water trough. Beyond, a recess
containing 2 segment-arched plank doors. Above, set into the
slope, a round-arched tunnel entrance to the ice house, with
renewed board door.
These buildings adjoin the Wyatville's west terrace of 1823.
