Description

LEEDS

SE3137SE GLEDHOW LANE, Gledhow
714-1/57/697 (South side)
Garage and outbuildings at Gledhow
Hall

GV II

Garage and outbuildings, Late C19 and early C20. For Lord
Airedale. Coursed squared gritstone and ashlar, slate roof,
ornate glazed iron-framed canopy on S (yard) side. Glazed
wooden garage doors, canopy supported on cast-iron columns
with ornate scrolled brackets, crossed metal straps form the
support to the 3 open sides of the glazed roof which has
tension rods with cast ornamental bosses and spacers,
rectangular glass panes.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Lord Airedale was a member of the important Leeds family of
engineers; the later C19 alterations to Gledhow Hall (qv)
appear to have been followed by elaborate garage facilities
within the former stable yard, at a time when the motor car
was replacing horse transport.
