Alcove Cottage

GV II

House. Early C19. Timber-framed and part weatherboarded, part
rendered; low-pitched asbestos cement slate roofs; 2 large
ridgeline stacks. H-plan form with additional narrower range
to north flank.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; 3+1-window range. 2 wide gables flanking
centre and one narrow gable to north. The wide gables each
have a 16-pane sash with moulded surround, over a canted bay
window with lead hipped roof and hybrid margin glazed sash.
The bay flanks are white weatherboarded, as is some of the
ground floor walling. The centre has a single 1st floor window
as to gables over an Ionic portico, the entablature of which
has been altered. The narrow, north wing has a 12-pane sash
and is fronted by a conservatory.
The south flank has rendered 1st floor with two 12-pane sash
windows and white boarded ground floor with 2 margin-glazed
hybrid sash windows. 2 large stacks on ridgeline.
On the rear the south wing projects further west. Between the
2 wide wings is an area of flat roof with a rear lean-to over
staircase window. The rear of the north, wide, wing has a
12-pane sash on its 1st floor. The ground floor of rear is
substantially abutted by later single-storey extensions.
