Hostel, now hotel. Mid C19. Rendered brick with double-gabled hipped slate gambrel roofs and gabled slate roofed block at right-angles.

EXTERIOR: main part of two storeys with attic; four window range; two storey rear range. Front elevation has three segmental-headed dormers with nine-pane sashes behind plain parapet with stone coping. Stucco-moulded cornice at base of parapet and thin corner pilasters. Both storeys have two wide and two narrower margin-glazed sashes with broad stucco surrounds with square decorative corners.

Elevation to north west has a nine-pane sash with moulded surround, flush with wall, in each attic; ends of valley concealed by parapet. First floor has two recessed twelve-pane sashes; ground floor has replica fluted Doric doorcase with recessed entrance and semicircular bow window with moulded cornice, small paned sashes and fluted thin pilasters. The rendered two storey range to rear has three sixteen-pane recessed sashes on each floor.

South west elevation has small projecting flat-roofed block, small-paned first floor door to fire escape, one nine-pane sash to attic and one twelve-pane sash on first floor. Single-storey rear range with slate roof and slate-roofed lean-tos. Rear elevation has C20 dormers and red English-bond brickwork.

INTERIOR: not inspected.

HISTORY: built as employees' hostel by Bentall's.
