GV II

Public house, now flats. Early and mid C18. Timber-framed with
front of grey header-bond brick with red brick dressings. Roof
is of M-profile of plain tiles with large central stack in
valley.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with attic and cellar; 3-window range. 2
dormers with gables and 2-light plain casements, probably an
afterthought. 1st floor has moulded cornice/coving and 3 sash
windows. Ground floor has C19 shop front with fascia and 2
cant-sided plate-glass windows with recessed central door and
door to passage.
Rear elevation is rendered, with assortment of C20 casements,
some aluminium, and 2 original gabled dormers.
INTERIOR: the timber-frame is of pine (presumably imported)
and is skilfully designed and of high quality. Based on C17
concepts, the roof is A-framed, full-height main posts and 2
parallel bridging joists on each floor. Major posts have
straight braces and stud infill is of poor quality timber,
some reused.
