GV II

House, now old people's home. Late C18 or early C19.
Timber-framed and rendered with gabled plain tile roofs;
ridgeline stack to north-west end and 2 stacks in central
valley (?former rear wall). 2 parallel ranges with a C20
2-storey extension on north-west corner with plain tile roof
at right-angles to main block.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with attic; 6-window range. Front has
plain parapet and 3 lead-roofed dormers each with a 20-pane
sash. 1st and ground floor have 6 unequally spaced 12-pane
sash windows with moulded surrounds. Off-centre doorcase with
hood and fluted Doric pilasters to door of 4
raised-and-fielded panels over 2 flush panels.
The south-east flank is of 2 unequal gables, the front, wider,
part having C20 French windows. The rear part has a 16-pane
sash window on each floor.
The rear elevation has C20 pargeting and three 16-pane sashes
with moulded surrounds on 1st floor. Ground floor has an
off-centre door with early C19 hood, moulded architrave and
door with 9 panes over 2 flush panels; also two 10-paned fixed
windows and a 16-pane sash. The C20 rear extension has a black
weatherboarded 1st floor and hardwood sash windows.
INTERIOR: hardwood timber-frame partly exposed inside, of
numerous bays. Wide entrance hall leads to main staircase in
rear range, of L-plan form and cantilevered with wreathed
handrail, stick balusters and shaped tread ends; the handrail
at 1st-floor landing has attractive bowed projection and
cusping on exposed floor edge. Service staircase between 1st
and attics in front range has column balusters. South-east
ground-floor room has stripped simple late C18 panelling
(all timberwork has been stripped) and a shouldered fire
surround architrave. Small corner cupboard possibly from
elsewhere.
