Guest-house. Early C19 and earlier. Timber-framed and rendered with low-pitched roofs. 2 blocks: the south-east block has a Welsh slate roof, hipped to Cromwell Hill and gabled to the rear, and the north-west block has a clay pantiled roof. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; the south-east front has wide overhanging eaves and, on the 1st floor, two 12-pane sash windows with moulded surrounds. The ground floor has early C19 shop front with projecting cornice, frieze with fan motif over 4 reeded Doric pilasters. Central door with 6 raised fielded panels and fanlight. Either side are tripartite shop-type windows with a vertical glazing bar in central light. The shop front returns for one bay on the Cromwell Lane frontage which in part is of 3 storeys; 2nd floor has three 12-pane sash windows with moulded surrounds. The 1st floor has 2 recessed 12-pane sash windows. Ground floor has recessed 2-light window and low double door. The rear block has one gabled dormer with C20 two-light window and 2 flush 16-pane sash windows on 1st floor. Ground floor has fascia above a recessed door with margin-glazed fanlight and recessed 12-pane sash window. To the north-west are a wide pair of boarded doors with area of black weatherboarding over. INTERIOR: very complex building of many periods, and the south-west flank of front block has framing with internal curved wall bracing to centre strut, exposed inside.
