Masonic lodge and 2 houses. Early C19. Rendered brick with
roofs of Welsh slate and asbestos slate.
EXTERIOR: part 2-storey and part single-storey with attics.
Irregular group of contemporary building with U-shaped
frontage to Cromwell Hill. The Masonic Lodge has a 2-storey
annexe to street, with slate hipped roof and lean-to on
north-east flank. The 1st floor has 2-light horizontal-sliding
casements to 1st floor and door to street. The Lodge itself to
the rear is taller and of similar materials.
No.3A is a house of 2 storeys with basement; 3-window range.
2-light casements with segmental arched heads on 1st floor.
The ground floor has cellar entrance, French window and flight
of 3 steps up to semicircular-headed door opening with C20
hood. Also a 2-light casement with segmental head and a
curious recess, with arched head at the north-east end (former
passage).
No.3B (Cromwell Cottage) has a hipped roof to street, partly
of asbestos slate and a catslide block on south-west flank.
This has 2 segmental-roofed dormers with 2-light casements,
some C20 windows and a margin-glazed square window with
coloured glass inserts. The elevation to the street has one
sash window with central vertical glazing bar, blind recess to
1st floor over a shallow 16-pane bow window and cellar light
under. The north-east elevation has, on the 1st floor, a
16-pane sash window either side of a 12-pane sash. The ground
floor has a central semicircular-arched door with radiating
fanlight and similar double-hung sash windows either side. At
the north-west end is a 2-storey gabled block at right-angles
with barge-boards and a 16-pane sash window on each floor.
