04/07/52 Cross and well and surrounding wall

GV II

Cross and site of former well; cross restored and well filled
in. Cross dated 1758 on base of shaft. Sandstone blocks. The
cross is mounted on a square plinth set back from the footway
and as high as the attached boundary wall, has a 3-step base
and stop-chamfered shaft, the base of this inscribed "1758"
and the top section renewed, and a C19 cruciform head with
raised lettering "IHS". The site of the former well to the
left is surrounded on 3 sides by a low stone wall.
Collectively all the buildings in Little Crosby Conservation
Area form a valuable group of similar scale but varied dates,
materials and style.
