Pair of houses forming part of interestingly varied terraced
row of 15 in generally harmonious style; No.1 now in multiple
occupation. Mid to later C19; altered. White-painted stucco,
slate roofs, stuccoed chimneys; cast-iron verandah. Eclectic
style with some Italianate features. L-plan with back
extensions.
EXTERIOR: two-and-a-half storeys, 2+1 windows, No.1 to the
right designed as a taller gabled receding wing; prominent
bracketed eaves and gable verges. Elaborate verandah of 3+3
unequal bays with slender pierced columns, lacy open-work
segmental arches including scrolls and leaves, and trefoil
cresting (that to No.1 seriously damaged at time of survey,
one column and a large section of the open-work arch attached
to it having collapsed). At ground floor No.1 has a bowed
4-light sashed window, No.2 has a square-headed doorway with
panelled half-glazed door and plain overlight and a
rectangular bay window of 3 sashed lights to the left. At 1st
floor No.1 has a 3-light sashed window with shouldered lights,
colonnette mullions with foliated caps and a triple-arched
hoodmould, and at 2nd floor a pair of similar sashed windows
with pitched canopies; No.2 has two one-light sashes at 1st
floor with set-in colonnettes and round-headed arches with
linked hoodmoulds. All windows sashed without glazing bars.
Right-hand return of No.1 (to Blucher Street), a 3-window
range in similar style, including doorway with stilted
segmental arch in pitched canopy. Adjoins Nos 3-7 (consec)
(qv) to the left.
