SATTERLEIGH AND WARKLEIGH
Lower Watertown

Tenement farmhouse, now private dwelling. Probably late C17, extended at left end
circa 1980. Rendered stone rubble and cob. Half-hipped thatch roof, including
continuous rear outshut. Tall stone rubble stack with tapered cap to rear left-
hand room enclosed by outshut. Brick stack to rear of C20 extension.
Plan: original core consists of 2-room plan with direct entry into larger left-hand
room heated by rear lateral stack and smaller unheated room to right; which
formerly had staircase at rear entering the larger left-hand room by a now blocked
doorway in its right-hand corner. Continuous outshut to rear, possibly integral.
2-storey C20 extension of 1 room plan at left end, containing staircase.
2 storeys. 5-window range. C20 fenestration, 2-light casements, 2 panes per light.
C20 leanto porch with C19 inner plank stable door to centre of original range, with
additional entrance to left end extension.
Interior. Principal room has chamfered scroll-stopped fireplace lintel. C17
straight-headed doorway with chamfered surround to right. Otherwise C19 joinery
largely intact and original core largely unspoilt.
