Wakefield Theatre and Opera House, 92 to 100, Westgate

Uploader's Comments

Wakefield Theatre Royal and Opera House is a grade II* listed building. There has been a theatre on the site since 1774, with the current building dating from 1894, and designed by the internationally known British Victorian theatre architect Frank Matcham.
It is the smallest theatre designed by him, having only 499 seats. Not only an architectural gem, it is one of few Matcham Theatres now open for its original purpose, having been reopened by the Friends of Wakefield Theatre Royal in March 1986.
