2.
Architect William Kent, circa 1748; seriously altered in late C19 when the
2 storey elevations were cement rendered and completely changed. Inside there
is a late C18 or early C19 stair with delicate metal balustrade, and some
of the 1st floor rooms have C18 cornices, and panelling of ordinary type but
original date. Woburn Park or Woburn Farm as it was known in the C18 was
the seat of Phillip Southcote who in the 1740's transformed the estate into
a "ferme ornee" or ornamental farm the essentials for which were fields for
cattle or crops, decorated with statuary, vases, temples, archways and other
features. Reference in H F Clark's English Landscape Gardens, with reproduction
of old front of house and estate. Very little survives of the famous lay-out
either architecturally or otherwise but some remaining structures merit listing.

Woburn Park and the listed structures within the grounds, form a group.
