Hall, house and attached chapel, now converted to domestic use.
Late C15, some late Cl7, early C18, Cl9 and C20 alterations.
Coursed rubble, ashlar dressings and red brick. Slate roofs.
C15 house of coursed rubble. Large external left rubble stack
with some brick patching and brick shaft. Single ridge and rear
right red brick stacks. The outer single bays are gabled and are
2 storeys plus garret. The 3 bay centre being 2 storeys.
Central lean-to porch with glazed double door flanked by single
fixed lights. Either side are single C18 glazing bar sashes
with drip moulds. Further left is a single C20 5 light casement
with drip mould and further right a single similar 4 light C20
casement and drip mould. Above are 4 C18 glazing bar sashes, the
single outer sashes with drip moulds. On the top floor are 2 C16
2 light ashlar mullion casements with drip moulds. To the right
set back slightly is a C19 single storey single bay painted brick
wing with ashlar coped parapet and single red brick stack to the
rear. Single 3 light C20 casement. Further right and projecting
is the former C19 2 storey single bay chapel. Red brick with
some rubble single red brick stack to the right. Crow stepped
ashlar coped gable with single ridge finial. Panelled clasping
pilasters of 2 stages with bands and finials. First floor band.
Single central early C19 re-used rose light. Above is a single
tripartite casement with Tudor arched panel over with herringbone
brick nogging. The left gable wall of the C15 build has a single
light window to the right of the stack and a single 2 light
ashlar mullion casement to the left. Above left is a single
similar 2 light casement, further left is a single similar single
light casement all with drip moulds, further drip mould to the
left of the stack of the ground floor. Rear/entrance front of 5
bays. The outer 4 bays project and are each 2 storeys plus
garret and gabled. The single bays second from the right and
left being slightly narrower and that second left being slightly
lower. Central lean-to C20 porch with C20 double door, marginal
and over lights. To the right is single 2 light ashlar mullion
casement with single similar 4 light window, on the far right to
the left is a single moulded Tudor arched former doorway now
containing a similarly arched C19 casement with decorative
glazing bars. On the far left is a single 4 light ashlar mullion
casement. Above, single central similar smaller 4 light
casement, to the left are 2 similar 3 light casements, and to the
right a single small single light casement and a single similar 3
light casement. The garrets of the inner single bays with single
similar small casements. The outer bays with single similar 2
light casements. All openings apart from the C20 and the garret
of the second left single bay-have drip moulds. All drip moulds
C16 with roll and fillet moulding. All ashlar casements Cl6.
Interior. Floor inserted in hall late C16. First floor with C16
stud partition extending the length of the hall, further stud
partitions to bedrooms. Some C17 plank doors, many C18 panelled
doors. Main mast newel staircase with later early Cl9 foliate
and decorative fret panelling to the wall and entered through a
C18 reeded archway. Roof with several curved wind braces and
evidence of former smoke hole. Lintel of former window lighting
the hall said to be incorporated in the wall of the garden front
above the inserted floor. The Manor was given to Bagnall-Wild by
Elizabeth I. White's Directory of Nottinghamshire.
