9-47, Bromley Street E1

A Grade II Listed Building in Stepney Green, London

Regency House

Uploader's Comments

This is a group of mid sized Regency or possibly Georgian Houses built around 1827 and to house the local Ship Merchants in the docks of Limehouse. The original street was all Regency but torn down in the Victorian period and replaced with Victorian houses.
However, these small group at the end survived and are most beautiful and simple in design displaying the classic "Regency" style white stucco fronts and arched windows with black railings at the front and probably were inhabited by Seamen who docked in Limehouse. The Victorian Houses built later were for the Ropemakers and the plaque on the street still remains.
