Garden walls, gate piers, railings and gates. Early C18 with some later
repair. Brick, partly laid in English bond partly in Flemish bond; iron
railings and gates. The walls enclose the gardens to the south and west of
Matfield House (q.v.). To the west the walls are coped with brick, with some
replacement with concrete coping. Square section brick corner piers with ball
finials. To the south of the house iron railings with square section
verticals and spear finials are divided into bays by wrought iron panels. The
railings ramp up to the central gate. Square section brick piers with ball
finials. Elaborate nowy-headed gate, framed by wrought iron panels with a
wrought iron overthrow. A second wrought iron gate with a round-headed
overthrow gives access to the garden on the east side.
