17-JUN-88 BRIDGE AT SW75063747

Bridge over River Kennal. c1844, Granite rubble with some large dressed monoliths. 2-span bridge has pointed cutwater upstream. Simple lintel construction with a high rubble parapet.

HISTORY: Kennal Vale is an exceptionally well-preserved gunpowder works which opened in 1812 and was extended in 1844, with an unusually complete range of components.

An impressive example of vernacular engineering. The bridge was built in association with the expansion of the works after 1840.
