Terrace house on corner site. c.1766 with early and mid C19 alterations. Reddened
brick, slate roof. 4 storeys, basement and dormered mansard. 3 windows wide to
square and 5 windows return with central canted bay to Carlisle Street. Ground floor
has good early C19 shop front, frame of 4 engaged Greek fluted Doric columns
supporting entablature, 3 mid C20 windows, centre one replacing doorway; the
entrance is now located to right of canted bay on return with architrave case and
probably not original position. Upper floors to square have recessed sashes in C19
stucco architraves. Brick plat band over 1st floor, large stone modillion cornice
and balustraded parapet. Return has architraved sashes and brick plat bands and
plain parapet with coping. Interior although altered retains a number of original
features including stone staircase at back of hall, against party wall with good
wrought iron S-scroll pattern balustrade; ground floor front room with enriched
cornice and mid C18 chimneypiece; main room on 1st floor with fine if incomplete
Rococo plasterwork to ceiling and enriched cornice, otherwise principally early C19
doorcases and furniture except for C18 pedimented doorway to 1st floor landing, etc.
