TQ 2980 NW CITY OF WESTMINSTER OLD BOND STREET W1 70/69 (west side) No 28 "Royal Arcade" 14.8.86 (including shops in arcade and Albemarle Street front) - II Arcade of shops running through to Albemarle Street. c. 1890. Stucco elevation, glazed roof to arcade. 2 storeys. 3 bay front with ornate eclectic classical details. Large archway with heavy console keystone, frames arcade entrance and flanking pair of shops, their windows bowed into arcade. Central archivolt arched window to 1st floor with cast iron balcony; recumbent female figures in relief panels above shop fronts. Parapet with dies. The centrepiece rises with caryatids supporting shaped gable overall. The Albemarle Street elevation is virtually identical. Within the arcade a 2 storey composition each side with curved bay shop windows and doorways divided by engaged Ionic columns; 1st floor windows with segmental arches. Richly decorated stucco arches cross arcade at each bay to support the glazed roof.
