- Standedge Canal Tunnel

1798-1811. Canal tunnel portal. Engineer Benjamin Outram. Semicircular
ashlar arch forms entrance to stone vaulted tunnel. Coursed rubble
walling with string course and ashlar coping. The tunnel is 3 miles
171 yards long, 3 yards wide and 17 feet high. Water level is 8 feet.
