Detached cottage approx 5m south of west wing of Bengeo Hall
(qv). C18, with C20 alterations and extensions. Red brick,
Flemish bond with gabled old tiled roof.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, extended westwards late 1980s. West and
south elevations have C20 sash windows beneath segmental brick
arches with flat extrados; north elevation to rear yard has
two C19 square recessed 9-pane sash windows at first floor.
Ground floor with 3 doors, 2-panel, with elaborate Chinese
Chippendale patterned upper panels, glazed behind, and flush
lower panels, all set below segmental brick arches.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: substantial 3m high red brick wall,
Flemish bond, encloses service yard, and has attached C18
storage hutch with wood latticework and slated sides and twin
2-panel wood latticework doors. Wall returns around north of
west wing, with gate piers, and slate roofed lean-to on east,
with brick piers moulded stone caps and oak finials. Main west
face of wall cement rendered with wires for vines; vinery now
demolished.
Cottage and wall form part of the setting of Bengeo Hall (qv).
