Poplar Lawn and attached walls and
gate piers

GV II

House. Early C19 remodelling of a formerly symmetrical C18
house, extended c1850-60. Stucco over cob and timber framing,
slate roof with stacks to rear right and right. Formerly
3-room through-passage plan with a late C19 2-storey right
wing incorporated into the design. The room to the rear left
is now part of a house to the left (not listed).
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; 4-window range. Early C19 6-over-6-pane
sash windows, 6/9-panes to the ground floor. The C18
left-of-centre 6-panel door is set in a doorcase which has
pilasters supporting an entablature with a triglyph frieze and
modillion cornice.
INTERIOR: a former open fire to the rear right wall, an early
C19 closed-string dogleg staircase with a swept swan's neck
pine handrail and splayed panelled shutters to the ground
floor. A small C18 2-panel door leads to the attic where the
original structure to the 3-bay roof has threaded purlins.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: a wall approx 2m high attached to the
front right corner extends forward for approx 10m, turns to
the left and curves forward to front the house, with pyramidal
capped gate piers toward the centre.
