Town house with later shop. Early C19. Incised stucco on
rubble with cornices on consoles to openings including
elliptically-arched doorway. Roof not visible from street;
brick stack on right; grouted scantle slate roof at rear and
brick stack. Double-depth plan plus late C19 basement
extension over early C19 foreshore building.
3 storeys over hidden basement; 2-window range. Original
16-pane hornless sashes and 6-panel door in incised frame to
far left. Early C20 double shop front with splayed sidelights
to central doorway. Rear is 3 storeys over basement with
extension over lower basement with keyed elliptically-arched
doorways with ledged doors and a brick blocked loading
doorway. Fenestration of late C19 basement extension includes
2 horned sashes with glazing bars. House rear is slate-hung
and has tall mid-floor sash and later 4-pane hornless sash to
2nd floor; weatherboarded washroom projection on the right.
INTERIOR where inspected retains most of its original features
including: moulded ceiling to basement; moulded and carved
ceiling band and large carved rose to rear room of shop;
elliptical moulded arches between front and rear rooms and in
entrance hall; 6-panel doors and basement staircase. Otherwise
not inspected but said to have exceptionally good quality
open-well staircase and carved plasterwork details.
