Statue. 1898. Stone. By John Cassidy of Benjamin Brierley
(1825-1896) a former handloom weaver who became a member of
the City Council. He was a founder of the Manchester Literary
Club and the author of many books. At present stone plinth in
situ: rest in store awaiting restoration.
