Portal of Gannow tunnel of Leeds-Liverpool Canal. c1797-1801.
Engineer, Samuel Fletcher. Coursed squared punch-dressed
sandstone blocks. Semicircular arch with rusticated voussoirs
and channelled pilasters, these and the spandrels between them
decorated with a sort of hieroglyphic "vermiculation"; a plain
band, and coped parapet; slightly concave full-height
abutments; oval number plate "128" on the right-hand abutment.
