Bingo club, formerly Granada Cinema. 1937. By Cecil Masey with
interiors by Theodore Komisarjevsky. Brown brick and white
tile with stone dressings and parapeted roof. Classical style.
2 and 3 storeys. Narrow tall frontispiece has 4 giant
Corinthian columns in antis with pilasters either side all
supporting an entablature. Blank attic with elaborate crowning
cornice of acanthus leaves. 2-storey 4-window range of metal
windows within portico. Glazed double doors on ground floor.
INTERIOR: much original detailing survives. Foyer has
Corinthian pilasters and modillion cornice, balustrading to
balconies and engraved mirror tympana to arches. Auditorium
has Corinthian aedicule leading to stage, with large decorated
panels either side. These have balustrades surmounted by
elaborate pierced screens and pilasters in between decorated
with arabesques. Ceiling has shallow beam and coffering
decoration in circle. Curving balcony.
