GV II

Former school, now community building. c1840. Squared and
coursed Portland stone, slate roof. Tudor Revival style.
PLAN: plain rectangular block to the street, with parallel
wing forming an L-plan, later wing set to internal angle.
EXTERIOR: single storey, 3-bay front to Church Street, with
4-light stone chamfered-mullion casements to labels. Gables
with coped verges; that to the right (N) is rendered, with a
pinnacle, and partly concealed by a flat-roofed porch
addition. To the left, the main gable has a lofty bellcote
with pointed arch and steep gabled top, above a stone louvred
lancet to the roof space, a small rectangular light, and plank
doors in a flush surround, all these with drip courses.
To its left, slightly set back, the later wing, with similar
detailing, has a pinnacle to the gable above a small louvred
lancet and a 4-light mullioned casement.
The front to the playground area has, to the left, the
original building, with a large 3-light chamfered-mullion
casement, without drip and a plank door to segmental head.
Coped verge and pinnacle to the left, plain verge and brick
stack, right. Then the later wing, partly concealed by
asbestos-roofed extensions.
INTERIOR: is in 4 bays, with raised king-post trusses, and
there is a large elliptical opening from the main schoolroom
to the W wing.
