Gate piers approx 10m west of the
entrance to stable yard, Upwey House

GV II

Pair of gate piers. Late C18 or early C19. Portland ashlar. A
pair of isolated piers, without attached walls or gates, at
the entrance to the drive to Upwey House (qv), beyond its
stable block (qv). Piers, approx 2m high and 0.45m square,
with projecting responds for former gates, to a small
scroll-stop head. The piers have 2 fielded panels to the front
and rear faces, and a capping, formerly with ball finial, on a
moulded cornice; the capping to the right-hand pier is
damaged.
