Formerly known as: The Three Crowns Public House SOUTHGATE STREET. House, formerly a public house. Early C19 face to a c16 core. Timber-framed; faced in white brick with a plaintiled roof. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attics. 3 window range with the centre upper window blocked: 12-pane sashes to the 1st storey and 16-pane sashes to the ground storey, all in plain reveals. A raised brick band between the storeys. A central 6-panel door with the top 2 panels glazed has a doorcase with recessed fluted columns and a segmental plaster tympanum. A footscraper on each side of the door. A chimney-stack in Tudor brick is set externally on the rear wall. A late C19 2-storey rear extension is in red brick with a slate roof. INTERIOR: cellar with rubble flint walling and some reused stone blocks; C17 timbers to ceiling. Fragmentary remains of the timber core exposed on the ground storey: most beams boxed in. The main beam to the right of the entry has a double ogee moulding.
